Our Story
Growing up on his family's tree nursery in Litchfield Connecticut, John spent countless hours working alongside his father, Tom Martinsen, in landscaping and tree care. Tom already had a wealth of knowledge around tree care and Those early experiences laid the foundation for a lifelong passion for physics and arboriculture. From an early age, John was taught not only how to work safely around trees, but also the physics behind tree removal and the biology that governs tree health.
John founded Martinsen Tree Service in 2022, continuing a family tradition built on more than 50 years of professional tree care. After spending years learning alongside his father, Tom Martinsen, John now provides the same quality workmanship, integrity, and attention to detail that customers have come to associate with the Martinsen name.

An Unexpected Loss
After earning his bachelor's degree, John chose to follow in his father's footsteps and pursue tree care as a career. Combining his scientific background with hands-on experience, he developed a strong understanding of tree biology, physics, and safe removal techniques. Over the next several years, John had the privilege of working side by side with his father, learning from decades of knowledge and refining the skills that now define Martinsen Tree Service.
In August 2023, Tom Martinsen unexpectedly passed away. Although this loss was deeply felt by family, friends, and customers alike, his legacy lives on through the values he instilled—integrity, hard work, and a commitment to doing every job with excellence. Today, John is proud to carry that legacy forward by providing the same level of professionalism, craftsmanship, and personal service that Tom was known for throughout his career.
